FAQ:

What can I expect when contacting CCPLB?
NEWS: Currently CCPLB acts as a free public service and a national portal for professional services (all our counsellors and referral sources are carefully selected before listing). We regret that at the moment we do not have a staff member to receive individual phone calls or emails. Please make all inquiries directly to our trusted counsellors to best match your needs.

How much does it cost?

Fees for counselling sessions vary depending on the counsellor you work with and the degree of support needed.

Are fees covered by Government Health Care Systems?
Services are not covered by government health care benefits (such as OHIP); however, since all our counsellors are registered with a regulatory body (such as the College of Social Workers, OACCPP, etc), some services may be covered by some third party insurance companies.

How many sessions will I need?
There is no fixed amount of sessions as each person is unique and needs will vary. Some people will find comfort in attending just one or two sessions, while others may benefit from multiple sessions and from a long term support or psychotherapy.

How do I make an appointment?
Please visit our Trusted Counsellors Page to make an appointment with a counsellor in your area or that which feels the most right for you at this time.

What if I have to cancel my appointment?
Your counsellor would usually inform you of their cancellation policy. Normally if you cannot make your appointment, you are asked to notify your counsellor at least 24 hours before your appointment time in order to avoid cancellation charges.

I work with a social service organization and we do not have staff trained to provide pet loss bereavement counselling. Does the CCPLB contract its services to organizations?
Yes, the CCPLB contracts its professional counselling services to organizations or veterinary clinics not able to provide pet loss bereavement support.

On-Call Crisis Support paws

The CCPLB can provide on-call support to clients in distress at local Canadian veterinary clinics or Emergency Mental Health facilities. One of our affiliated qualified Pet Loss Bereavement counsellors may be available to provide emergency crisis management and support to clients on an on-call or by appointment basis. Please contact us for directly for more details, or see our listing of TRUSTED COUNSELLORS.

"I found the Mentoring Package offered through the Canadian Centre for Pet Loss Bereavement to be an invaluable tool for any clinician seeking to learn more about this unique area of clinical practice... I have now expanded my already established practice to also include issues of animal bereavement"
B.D., Psychotherapist (Toronto)

"The mentoring program with Shiri Joshua was a unique and inspiring experience for me. Shiri's wonderful way of communicating her own personal experiences and wisdom, and including the realm of the spirituality made this a wonderful adjunct for those of us hoping to help others find hope and meaning after the loss of a beloved animal friend."
